Holland Hospital’s Culinary Cabaret Raises Record Amount

Holland Hospital’s annual fund raising event, the Culinary Cabaret, last week raised a record amount of $178,485.  More than 550 guests attended the March 5 event at the Pinnacle Center in Hudsonville, bidding on more than 100 auction items and enjoying food and beverages from fourteen area restaurants, catering companies and beverage producers.  All of the funds raised will benefit the Holland Community Health Center which provides primary care health services to 5,400 uninsured or underinsured individuals.

“We thank all of the individuals, corporations and organizations that supported this year’s Culinary Cabaret,” said Colleen Perdok, Holland Hospital Fund Development Coordinator. “Your generosity is making a real difference in the lives of at risk individuals and families in our own community.”

In addition to the record amount raised for the Health Center, the evening was highlighted by the presentation of competitive awards among the participating restaurants.

• Best Comfort Food: Creative Dining Services of Haworth Inn
• Best Presentation & Dessert: Second Floor Bakery
• Best Plating: Piper Restaurant
• Overall Critic's Choice: Public

The People’s Choice Awards, as chosen by the Culinary Cabaret guests, went to Piper Restaurant for Top Chef and to the Second Floor Bakery for Culinary Artistry.

The mission of the Holland Community Health Center (HCHC) is to provide access to primary health care for residents of the greater Holland area who are uninsured or under-insured. The HCHC seeks to improve the health of their patients by providing quality primary health care in a safe, caring and compassionate environment; reduce dependency on area Emergency Departments for primary health care needs; and to improve the quality of life for patients by preventing/managing chronic illnesses. The greatest needs among HCHC patients include prenatal care, well baby checks, childhood immunizations, women’s health care, behavior health issues, diabetes and hypertension management, and education.

Holland Hospital serves the health care needs of the greater Holland area and surrounding communities in Ottawa and Allegan counties with a 189-bed main campus and numerous off-site locations.  The hospital medical staff includes more than 300 primary care and specialty physicians with support from 2,000 hospital employees. Holland Hospital has been ranked among the nation’s 100 top hospitals for ten consecutive years and was chosen as a national 2014 Healthiest 100 Workplaces in America award winner.
