Jane Borr Receives 2018 Michigan School Nurse Administrator of the Year Award

Jane Borr, RN, is the recipient of the 2018 Michigan School Nurse Administrator of the Year award. Borr started her career with Holland Hospital in 1980 and became part of the School Nurse Program in 2001. Borr has served as the School Nurse Manager since 2004. The School Nurse Program is a partnership between Holland Hospital and five local school districts; Holland Public, West Ottawa, Hamilton, Holland Christian and Fennville. The program serves more than 11,000 students in more than 20 schools along the lakeshore.

“This award was a surprise,” said Jane Borr, Holland Hospital School Nurse Manager. “To me, it affirms that the Holland Hospital School Nurse Program is highly valued in the schools.”

According to the Michigan Association of School Nurses, the School Nurse Administrator of the Year is awarded to one school nurse who demonstrates excellence in school nursing practice and leadership in school health.

“Jane is well deserving of this honor. She works tirelessly to uphold the highest standards of the school nurse practice within our community. She also leads with passion and heart and provides extraordinary leadership to her team of nurses,” said Kim Costello, Executive Director, Holland Hospital Post-Acute and Community Based Care.

“As school nurses we have a passion for the health, welfare and safety of the children and work tirelessly to help students with health concerns attend school,” said Borr.

Borr was nominated for this award by the Director of Special Education at Holland Public Schools, Jennifer Headley-Nordman, who describes Borr as an integral part of their special education service delivery. Borr helps the district meet their unique needs by coordinating and training the nursing staff. She is known to regularly encourage her staff to support “whole child” health care initiatives and is eager to collaborate on programs to improve the overall quality of education.

“Children come to school today with health care needs that go far beyond bandaging a skinned knee,” Borr said. “Our mission is that of the hospital itself: to continually improve the health of the communities we serve in the spirit of Hope, Compassion, Respect and Dignity.”

Holland Hospital is proud to congratulate Jane Borr as the 2018 Michigan School Nurse Administrator of the Year.
