Holland Hospital Receives Back-to-Back National Recognitions

Tue, Feb 26, 2013

Less than one week after being selected an America’s 100 Best hospital by Healthgrades, Holland Hospital has been honored again.

Yesterday, Truven Health Analytics (formerly Thomson Reuters) named Holland Hospital as one of the nation’s 100 Top Hospitals.  This is the eighth consecutive year the Hospital has received this top honor.  We are the only hospital in West Michigan to have received both the Truven Health Analytics 100 Top Hospitals and the Healthgrades America's 100 Best Hospitals awards.

“Our hospital staff and physicians strive to deliver the highest quality of care to each and every patient we serve,” said Dale Sowders, Holland Hospital President and CEO.  “Achieving this level of recognition for eight consecutive years, as well as being selected an America’s 100 Best hospital by Healthgrades, is a powerful validation that we consistently provide high-quality care at Holland Hospital.”

To determine the 100 Top Hospitals, Truven Health researchers evaluated 2,922 short-term acute care, non-federal hospitals.  They used public information – Medicare cost reports, Medicare Provider Analysis and Review (MedPAR) data, and core measures and patient satisfaction data from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) Hospital Compare website to make their determination.  Hospitals do not apply, and winners do not pay to market this honor.

“The winners of the 100 Top Hospitals award have driven the national benchmarks higher every year for 20 years,” said Jean Chenoweth, senior vice president at Truven Health Analytics. “The key to success in a tumultuous environment is visionary leadership that develops and maintains a hospital-wide culture of excellence that cuts across everything, from patient care to housekeeping to administration, and the refusal to rest on laurels when it comes to adopting new technologies and techniques.”

Holland Hospital serves the health care needs of the greater Holland area and surrounding communities in Ottawa and Allegan counties with a 189-bed main campus and numerous off-site locations.  The hospital medical staff includes more than 300 primary care and specialty physicians with support from 2,000 hospital employees. Holland Hospital is ranked among the nation’s 100 Top Hospitals by Truven Health (Thomson Reuters) and Healthgrades, and has received ISO 9001:2008 certification by DNV Healthcare.
