Gynecologic Oncology Specialist Joins Women’s Specialty Care

Expands Gynecological Care along the Lakeshore

Holland Hospital is pleased to welcome gynecologic oncologist, Kevin Brader, MD, to Women’s Specialty Care. In collaboration with University of Michigan Health-West, Dr. Brader brings a wealth of cancer treatment experience to the West Michigan lakeshore area.

The American Cancer Society reports that nearly 20,000 women will receive a new ovarian cancer diagnosis each year, and two thirds or more of those cases will be detected at an advanced stage.

“Unfortunately, right now there is not a way to detect ovarian cancer at an earlier stage, so it is important once it is detected that the appropriate treatment is given,” said Kevin Brader, MD. “Data shows that if a gynecologic oncologist is involved in the patient’s care from the diagnosis, then the patient is more likely to have a positive outcome,” he added.

Dr. Brader also provides specialized care and treatments for uterine, cervical, vaginal and vulvar cancers and sees patients for second opinions. His team walks alongside patients through every step of the treatment process — from testing, evaluation and surgery to chemotherapy and recovery.

“We want women to feel comfortable—and comforted—while navigating this challenging time in their life,” said Dr. Brader. “It is an honor to join the Holland Hospital Women’s Specialty Care team to care for women in this community while coordinating with experts here on the lakeshore.”

“Dr. Brader brings decades of experience to our Women’s Specialty Care team and will allow women to be seen locally and begin treatment faster,” said Michelle Doctor, vice president of Holland Hospital Medical Group. “We are pleased to partner with Dr. Brader to offer women such important, lifesaving gynecological care close to home,” Doctor added.

Holland Hospital Women’s Specialty Care provides a variety of specialized health care services to women across the lakeshore. The team includes board certified ob/gyn and menopause practitioner Barb DePree, MD, nurse practitioners Lindsey Jonker and Hannah Clark, and clinical psychologist Patricia Roehling.

“I have coordinated patient care with Dr. Brader over the years; I am very happy to practice directly with him to enhance the gynecologic cancer care that our community receives,” said Barb DePree, MD. “Being able to provide women local access to Dr. Brader’s level of expertise is important for and appreciated by our patients.”

Dr. DePree is also certified in clinical cancer genomics and coordinates her expertise with general and breast oncology surgeon Jessica Hafner, DO, and our nurse navigation team to treat women who have breast cancer and those at high risk.
