The American Heart Association's Basic Life Support (BLS) CPR course trains participants to promptly recognize several life-threatening emergencies, give high-quality chest compressions, deliver appropriate ventilations and provide early use of an AED. 

The BLS course is designed for professional rescuers, healthcare providers and other personnel who need to know how to perform CPR and other basic cardiovascular life support skills in a wide variety of in-facility and prehospital settings.

This course teaches:
• High-quality CPR for adults, children, and infants
• The AHA Chain of Survival, specifically the BLS components
• Important early use of an AED
• Effective ventilations using a barrier device
• Importance of teams in multi-rescuer resuscitation and performance as an effective team member during multi-rescuer CPR
• Relief of foreign-body airway obstruction (choking) for adults, children and infants

Students will be evaluated with skills and written testing, and will received a two year certification in the form of an electronic "eCard" cpr certification.

Course fee is $55.00 (providers associated with Holland Hospital may be eligible for a discounted rate).

When canceling, a $5 non-refundable processing fee will be applied to all refunds.
Refunds will not be issued after the class has started.
Refunds will not be issued if a class is canceled due to inclement weather, or circumstances beyond our control; transfers to future/rescheduled classes in these circumstances are at no charge.

Class Notes

Students should arrive a few minutes early to sign in.

It is recommended that students review the BLS for Healthcare Providers manual prior to class. Community members may purchase or borrow a book by contacting the Healthy Life Programs office at (616) 394-3344.
