Mako robotic-arm assisted surgery is currently performed at Holland Hospital for both partial and total knee replacements by Derick Johnson, DO, orthopedic surgeon at the Bone & Joint Center.

A Closer Look at Mako

  • The Mako System for knee replacement is a treatment option specifically designed to address and relieve pain caused by joint degeneration due to osteoarthritis.
  • In 2017, the Mako System became the first and only robotic technology that can be used across the joint replacement service line to perform total knee, total hip and partial knee replacements.
  • Mako enables orthopedic surgeons to more easily pinpoint and replace the damaged part of knee while sparing surrounding healthy bone and ligaments.
  • Through CT-based, 3-D modeling of bone anatomy, surgeons can use the Mako system to tailor surgical plans and identify the implant size, orientation and alignment based on each person's unique anatomy. That means greater precision and comfort for you or someone you love.
  • Since 2007, more than 83,000 procedures, including total knee, partial knee and total hip replacements, have been performed with Mako.
