Boven Birth Center: All About You & Your Baby

At the Boven Birth Center, those expecting can (and should) expect the best. In fact, over 97 percent of moms who give birth here rate their experience as highly satisfying.

What sets Boven apart? We like to sum it up in three words: safety, comfort and empowerment. From the moment you arrive, we devote ourselves to protecting the health and wellness of your baby, as well as fulfilling your needs and wishes. Because we consider your birth plan our birth plan.

Boven Birth Center provides expert staff, state-of-the-art facilities and a uniquely personalized care approach – which explains why 3 out of 4 babies along West Michigan’s lakeshore are born here. What’s more, the trust and peace of mind we deliver is available close to your home.

Beautiful Experiences are Born at Boven

Every mom-to-be has her own dreams and visions of what her birthing experience will be like. We’ll go above and beyond to help you and your family realize those dreams, surrounding you with compassion, comfort and security every step of the way.

Holland Hospital’s Boven Birth Center ensures our littlest patients receive the highest-quality care for an excellent start in life. Some of our amenities include:

  • Skilled team of caregivers, including dedicated pediatric hospitalists and obstetric nurses, for baby and mom
  • Private birthing suites
  • An environment that feels more like home and less like a hospital
  • Infant HUGS® security protection for maximum safety
  • Breastfeeding support from board-certified lactation consultants
  • A Special Care Nursery for infants who need more specialized care and attention before going home
  • Interpretation services for all languages

Our People are Our Difference

Our high patient satisfaction scores attest to the expertise and compassion of the birthing team at Boven Birth Center, which includes OB/GYNs, pediatric hospitalists and surgeons, neonatal nurses and nurses specializing in obstetrics, lactation consultants, parent advocates and others. While professional standards, awards and sophisticated technology are critical, the people caring for you and your baby are what matter most. We take great pride in our team of caregivers. We know they’ll give you the support and confidence you need, from the moment you arrive to your family’s return home.

Private Birthing Suites

From leading-edge technology to personalized nursing care to alternative therapies, we’ll do everything possible to make the arrival of your new arrival memorable. That’s a big reason why the Boven Birth Center features private birthing suites. Cradling moms-to-be and their loved ones in comfort, each suite includes a shower, a recliner, and all the equipment and conveniences needed to experience childbirth in one room.

Safety First

For added peace of mind, we offer family-centered security measures that use the latest technology: the electronic HUGS® Infant Protection System. During your stay, you can rest assured we’re keeping the health and safety of you and your baby at heart.

Special Care Nursery

Nobody wants their baby to be hospitalized, but if it happens, you can take comfort knowing the Boven Birth Center features a state-of-the-art Special Care Nursery (SCN). Our SCN gives pre-term and term babies who need specialized attention extra monitoring and care before going home. The eight-bed unit is staffed by dedicated pediatric hospitalist physicians and neonatal nurse practitioners round-the-clock.

Additional comforts for family members include a bathroom with shower, small kitchen lounge, lockers, support for successful breastfeeding and more.

Pain Management

We understand pain management is a top concern for moms-to-be. That’s why we offer pain management options based on your wishes, whether you’d prefer a natural childbirth approach, or the use of pain medications and/or an epidural. We also offer nitrous oxide as an added comfort measure. A milder concentration than used in dental offices, nitrous oxide is inhaled through a mask when needed, helping laboring mothers feel more relaxed and better able to cope during contractions.

The Boven Birth Center also provides a range of non-medicinal comfort measures to help you relax during labor and delivery, including water therapy and birthing balls.

Ensuring Breastfeeding Success

Breastfeeding provides the very best nutritional start for babies. Our board-certified lactation consultants are here for you during and after your hospital stay to offer encouragement and guidance, so you and your baby can experience the many benefits of breastfeeding.

The Boven Birth Center is committed to helping all mothers gain confidence and achieve success when breastfeeding. Every two years, we participate in a special survey conducted by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) called Maternity Practices in Infant Nutrition and Care (mPINC). This survey helps determine how well we are delivering maternity and infant care, specifically as it relates to breastfeeding support. Most recently, Holland Hospital received an mPINC score of 92 out of 100, well above the average score in Michigan (78) and nationally (79).

Behavioral Health Services

Nothing truly “prepares” you for having a baby, and while parenting is filled with many rewards, it can also feel overwhelming sometimes. Holland Hospital will help you and your family adjust to pregnancy, as well as life with a new baby. We have specialists available to address and treat prenatal and postpartum depression or anxiety, relationship concerns and other behavioral health issues.

Pelvic Health Care

We provide access to physical therapists with comprehensive training in rehabilitation techniques for treating a wide variety of pelvic health problems after childbirth, including pelvic floor disorders, pelvic pain and urinary incontinence.

A Healthy Homecoming

Holland Hospital has the full complement of resources to foster a smooth, healthy transition home. We’re here to answer your questions and help you find the resources you need.

For additional help with high-risk or special needs, Holland Hospital’s Home Health team delivers medical and personal care, right in the comfort of your own home.
