Holland Hospital’s new Endocrinology office is connecting patients with expert care to treat a wide variety of endocrine disorders with an emphasis on treating the whole person – not just the condition.
What is endocrinology?
The endocrine system is a network of glands that produce and release hormones that help manage key functions in the body including metabolism, the circadian rhythm, mood and reproduction. Even a small issue with one or more of these glands can disrupt hormonal balances, leading to an endocrine disorder.
“Endocrinology is the study and care of people with hormone issues,” said Karl Nadolsky, DO, a board-certified endocrinologist with Holland Hospital. “This includes diseases, tumors or cancers of the glands that produce hormones.”
Unfortunately, endocrine disorders are common and can severely impact quality of life. That is why Holland Hospital Endocrinology offers comprehensive diagnosis, treatment and management of all endocrine and hormone-related conditions including obesity and weight-related disorders, metabolic syndrome, type 2 diabetes, fatty liver, polycystic ovary syndrome, pituitary, thyroid and adrenal disorders, reproductive hormone therapy, bone and calcium disorders and more.
Holland Hospital Endocrinology
Holland Hospital Endocrinology currently operates within the Holland Hospital Family Medicine office at 904 Washington Ave in Holland. The office accepts referrals from primary care doctors, but patients do not need a referral to book an appointment.
Dr. Nadolsky works alongside registered dietitians, exercise physiologists, psychologists, surgeons and other specialists to deliver a multidisciplinary, holistic approach to patient care. This can include creating a personalized nutrition plan and supporting physical activity and exercise efforts.
Hormones play a big role in areas like appetite, energy intake and expenditure and fat storage, and Dr. Nadolsky specializes in treating obesity and cardiometabolic disease. “I treat many patients who are struggling with their weight, especially when it's causing problems such as type 2 diabetes, fatty liver metabolic syndrome, cardiovascular risk or sleep apnea,” he says.
“Holistic care means treating the whole person,” says Dr. Nadolsky. “I look forward to working with other specialists and practitioners at Holland Hospital to deliver comprehensive, holistic care.”
