Sustaining the Gold in Cardiac Care

Holland Hospital; the only healthcare provider in Michigan awarded the Gold Performance Achievement Award for treating heart attack patients

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimates that nearly 800,000 Americans suffer a heart attack each year. A heart attack occurs when a blood clot in a coronary artery partially or completely blocks blood flow to the heart muscle. Treatment guidelines include administering aspirin upon arrival and discharge, timely restoration of blood flow to the blocked artery, smoking cessation counseling and cardiac rehabilitation, among others.

Holland Hospital has been awarded the American College of Cardiology’s National Cardiovascular Data Registry ACTION Gold Performance Achievement Award for 2018. The award recognizes Holland Hospital’s commitment and success in implementing a higher standard of care for heart attack patients and signifies that Holland Hospital has reached an aggressive goal of treating these patients to standard levels of care as outlined by the American College of Cardiology/American Heart Association clinical guidelines and recommendations.

"This award reaffirms our team’s continued efforts and focus on quality care for our heart patients,” said Todd Knight, Holland Hospital Assistant Vice President of Clinical Services. “We are proud to be among the providers in this gold category and to offer this level of excellence to our community."

To receive the ACTION Registry Gold Performance Achievement Award, Holland Hospital has demonstrated sustained achievement in the ACTION Registry for eight consecutive quarters and has performed at the top level of standards for specific performance measures. This is the ninth consecutive year Holland Hospital has received this award.
