Holland Hospital Participates in Stroke Awareness Month

Someone in the United States has a stroke every 40 seconds. Every 4 minutes, someone dies of stroke. But what is stroke? Is it possible to prevent it or regain health and independence after having one? To help the community better understand stroke, Holland Hospital is proudly participating in Stroke Awareness Month and offering a free physician lecture to address some of these questions and concerns.

“When it comes to stroke, knowledge is power,” said Lakeshore Health Partners Neurologist Christina Johnston, DO. “When you have a stroke, life can change dramatically – even simple tasks like shopping, talking on the phone or taking a walk can seem overwhelming, but it is important to note most strokes are preventable.”

Losing weight, drinking less alcohol, eating a healthy diet and exercise are a few ways to lower your risk of stroke. To learn more, please join Dr. Johnston as she presents, Surviving and Thriving After Stroke. Dr. Johnston’s presentation is part of Holland Hospital’s monthly Healthy Life Talks. A neuro rehab specialist will also join Dr. Johnston at this talk. Together, these experts will address the community’s stroke related concerns.
