New health care facility to provide high-quality clinical care at lower cost for patients
HOLLAND, Mich., Oct. 3, 2023 — Leaders from Holland Hospital and Shoreline Orthopaedics are gathering to celebrate the groundbreaking of a new premier Orthopedic Center in Zeeland, as a result of a recent joint venture that set out to transform the delivery of orthopedic-related health care in West Michigan by offering patients high-quality clinical care at a reduced cost. The new center will provide an advanced level of convenient and coordinated orthopedic care including expert diagnosis, medical treatment, surgery and physical therapy – all together in an innovative high-quality, low-cost outpatient setting.
“This marks an important collaborative milestone between Holland Hospital and Shoreline Orthopaedics as we work together to increase access to exceptional orthopedic-related care to residents throughout the Lakeshore communities,” said Holland Hospital President Patti VanDort. “We are proud to continue investing in our community with the construction of this new health care pavilion.”
The new 40,000-square-foot medical office building located on Westpark Way will provide an outpatient surgery center for orthopedic surgical services, an orthopedic-focused urgent care center, orthopedic clinical offices featuring orthopedic surgeons and physical medicine and rehabilitation physicians from Shoreline Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine, and outpatient physical therapy and “Return-to-Sport” rehabilitation services.
The Orthopedic Center, with an anticipated opening in 2025, will include a 19,000-square-foot ambulatory surgery center, four operating rooms, two procedure rooms, 16 post-anesthesia and recovery stations, a 15,000-square-foot orthopedic clinic and 5,000-square-foot outpatient rehabilitation services.

The collaboration was born from a shared vision of making high-quality orthopedic care more accessible to the Lakeshore communities. As the population ages and residents stay more physically active, the demand for outpatient orthopedic services and surgeries continues to expand. Recent research indicates that ambulatory surgery centers are anticipated to perform 68% of orthopedic surgeries by the mid-2020s with the cost of treatment coming in at 40% less for patients compared to in a hospital setting.
“With Orthopedic Urgent care, orthopedic office space, digital x-ray, ultrasound, physical therapy, sports performance, and a state-of-the-art outpatient surgical space, this site will provide expert orthopedic and musculoskeletal care to all people in our community and surrounding communities,” shared Stewart. “Whether you have an injury or pain from your shoulder to your fingertips, your hip to your toes, or your neck to your lower back, the physicians and other expert musculoskeletal providers are here to provide easy access to high quality and cost-effective treatment.”
Providers at the facility will perform a variety of orthopedic-related procedures, including general orthopedic surgery, specialty services such as fracture repair, hand, foot and ankle surgeries, joint replacement, and sports medicine, along with rehabilitation.
Construction of the Orthopedic Center is led by architectural firm hcp Architects, alongside engineering firm BBL Medical Facilities, and Nederveld construction firm.
