HOLLAND – June 6, 2011 - Patients at Holland Hospital can now enjoy their favorite television programs in greater detail, thanks to a gift of approximately $80,000 from Holland Hospital’s Volunteer Auxiliary. The Auxiliary’s donation has been used to install 63 new 32-inch flat-screen televisions, replacing older 19-inch tube sets on the inpatient floors of Hospital's main campus.

“Volunteers are an essential component to quality patient care at Holland Hospital,” said Sandi Beelen, director of Volunteer Resources. “The efforts of our volunteers and our Auxiliary benefit our patients, family members, visitors and staff in more ways than we can count.”

In addition to the recent entertainment upgrades, Holland Hospital volunteers have made several other contributions in the past year, including $5,000 in medication donations for Emergency Department patients, 15 new wheelchairs for Security Services and Errand & Escort, and $12,000 in scholarships for four students studying medical sciences.  Since its inception, the Holland Hospital Volunteer Auxiliary has made more than $1.8 million in monetary donations.

Holland Hospital is home to more than 500 volunteers responsible for logging 60,000 hours in 50 different hospital and community locations. The volunteers live in several Western Michigan and Lakeshore communities, and provide a number of services ranging from home meal deliveries and patient escort to running the Hospital’s Gift Shop and Coffee Cove.
