Medical laboratories and laboratory professionals aren't something most people think much about. Yet from routine testing to life-threatening emergencies, labs are critical to patient care delivery. In fact, it's estimated that about 70 percent of all patient care decisions are based on lab results.

For your convenience, Holland Hospital offers comprehensive, close-to-home laboratory services on our main campus, as well as at six additional locations. Accredited by the College of American Pathologists and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, our labs provide the full spectrum of services, including pathology, chemistry, hematology, cytology, histology, microbiology, coagulation, urinalysis, molecular diagnosis and virology.

Important Information for Our Patients

What to Bring

Please bring the lab test order (if the doctor has given one to you), photo identification and your insurance card.

Fasting

Our labs define fasting as no food, drink or smoking for 12 hours before blood is drawn. You may still take your medication with small amounts of water, unless your doctor has told you otherwise. Candy, gum, mints and coffee should not be consumed if your lab tests require fasting.

Insurance Coverage

Holland Hospital participates with many insurance plans. We do not participate with all managed care or preferred provider organization plans. We're happy to bill your insurance company directly; however, please understand you may receive invoices for copays, deductibles or other balances. Payment for these invoices are your responsibility. For a list of laboratories that participate with your insurance, check with your human resources department.

Advanced Beneficiary Notice

When you're at the lab, you may be asked to sign an Advanced Beneficiary Notice (ABN). Medicare and many other insurance companies will not pay for certain tests considered experimental, screening or medically unnecessary. By signing an ABN, you are agreeing to pay for these tests if your insurance won't cover the cost of them. You also have the right to refuse to have any test performed.
