Healthgrades Ranks Holland Hospital No. 1 in Michigan and Top 5% in the Nation

Holland Hospital ranks number one in Michigan for Surgical Care and is among America’s 50 Best Hospitals for Surgical Care, according to a new analysis released by Healthgrades, a leading source of objective information on hospital performance. In addition, Holland Hospital ranks number one in Michigan for both Orthopedic Surgery and Joint Replacement, and is among America’s 100 Best Hospitals for Orthopedic Surgery and Joint Replacement.

“Holland Hospital’s ongoing commitment to providing high-quality care to the communities we serve is evidenced through multiple regional and national awards,” said Patti VanDort, Holland Hospital President. “This recognition is a true testament to the dedication and compassion of our remarkable team of board-certified and expert providers, skilled nurses, and clinical and support staff.”

For the State Ranking analysis, Healthgrades evaluated the clinical performance of nearly 4,500 hospitals nationwide focusing on 18 key specialties across a mix of chronic, urgent, and surgical specialty areas. Hospitals recognized as top-ranked in their state by Healthgrades provide patients with consistently better-than-expected clinical outcomes.

Contributing to Holland Hospital’s success is the organization’s ongoing commitment to attracting a superior workforce. As one of the lakeshore area’s leading employers, the hospital has earned West Michigan’s Best & Brightest Companies to Work For award for 20 years in a row—more than any other hospital. In addition, Holland Hospital is the only hospital in the West Michigan region with the top 5-star rating from the Centers for Medicaid and Medicare Services and among a small percentage in the nation to consistently receive the top rating since the program was introduced.

Patients along West Michigan’s lakeshore benefit from this high-quality care. In fact, patients treated at hospitals receiving a state ranking for Joint Replacement have, on average, a 62.5% lower risk of experiencing a complication while in the hospital than if they were treated in hospitals that were not ranked for Joint Replacement.*
