Whether you are just beginning to experience some of the troubling symptoms of this unique time in our lives or seeking postmenopausal expertise, our evaluation and treatments are tailored to meet your specific needs.

Menopause affects different women in different ways and at different times. Surgical menopause occurs when premenopausal women have their ovaries removed, which could mean more severe menopause symptoms than women who experience a natural transition into menopause. Since everyone’s symptoms differ, this can be a difficult and confusing time for a woman. Symptoms appear in a physical and emotional form, from hot flashes or night sweats, to noticing hormonal and metabolic changes in your body.

So what is menopause? What are the treatments? Good questions. Let’s review the basics here.

Menopause refers to the time in a woman’s life when the ovaries stop functioning. It is the time when her menstrual periods cease, and she can no longer become pregnant. Most women reach menopause between the ages of 45-55. Perimenopause—the time around menopause —often begins many years before the last menstrual period.

Women often report a variety of symptoms ranging in degree and severity, including irregular vaginal bleeding, hot flashes, urinary issues, emotional symptoms and even weight gain due to decreasing metabolic rates.

It’s not unusual for women to feel as though her menopause symptoms are “abnormal” because everyone’s experience is different. Some symptoms might be too embarrassing to discuss with friends or partners, adding to the uncertainty.
