Recovery & Rehabilitation

Recovery times after surgery may vary. You will be closely monitored after your surgery to track your recovery progress, safety and comfort.

Patient safety and comfort are foremost after surgery. Each patient is assessed and treated individually by our specially trained nursing staff and must meet defined criteria before being moved to their room or being released to return home. The surgical care team will assess you continually to ensure safety and to manage any post-operative discomfort. The anesthesiologist, surgeon and nursing staff work together to develop an individualized pain management regimen.

Before leaving the hospital, patients should be sure they understand their recovery as related to:
  • Diet
  • Activity
  • Bandages and dressings
  • Medications
  • Stitches and incision care
  • Signs of infection
  • Bathing and showering
  • Pain (what to expect and how to treat)
  • Follow-up visits
  • Physical therapy or rehabilitation
