All patients are issued wrist bands at admission. The bands provide positive patient identification for hospital staff serving you. You may receive other bands as well and should wear them at all times while at the hospital.

Room assignment at Holland Hospital is based on your admitting diagnosis and the bed availability on the day you arrive. Private (single bed) and semi-private (two beds) rooms are available. Whenever possible, we will attempt to honor request for specific room accommodations.

Interpreters
Cultural and language barriers should not get in the way of quality medical care. The Patient Registration Department provides interpretation services at no cost 24/7 for patients and family members. To arrange for interpreting services, please call (616) 394-3341.

Visiting Hours:
You and your family are the center of the care team at Holland Hospital. The presence, input and participation of loved ones is encouraged as much as possible.

Visiting hours are flexible to achieve a balance between your need for visitors and rest. They may also vary depending on your condition, and daily care activities such as meals, bathing or scheduled medical procedures.
If you are in a semi-private room, consideration should be given to other patients in the room when determining visitation. Children are welcome to visit, but please remember that hospital rooms are not childproof. Therefore, children must be supervised by an adult visitor at all times. Holland Hospital staff looks forward to working with you and your family to provide a safe, restful and healthy environment for your stay.

Meals:
Wholesome, nourishing and well-balanced meals are an important part of treatment and recovery. Holland Hospital’s Food & Nutrition Services provides nutritious meals that fulfill patients’ diets as prescribed by their doctor and monitored by a Registered Dietician.

During their hospital stay, a Food and Nutrition Services staff member visits patients daily to take menu orders. Each day there is a variety of main entrees, side dishes, snacks and beverages to choose from. If a doctor has ordered a special diet or if patients have specific preferences, the staff will prepare accordingly.

On most hospital units, meals are served according to the following schedule:

Breakfast: 7:00 a.m.–10:00 a.m.
Lunch: 11:45 a.m.–2:00 p.m.
Dinner: 4:45 p.m.–6:00 p.m.

Family members and friends are welcome to join patients at mealtime; they can bring meal trays from The Café or the Coffee Cove to the patient’s room. Ask the nurse if unsure.

If a patient wishes to discuss any dietary needs or options, a Registered Dietician is available to meet.

Phones & Wi-Fi
Telephones are provided in each room for patients to use at any time and instructions are printed on the phone. Cell phones and personal transmitting devices (pagers, PDAs etc.) may not be used in any patient care area and should be turned off.

Holland Hospital has a wireless network that makes Internet access available to patients and guests in all areas of the hospital, including the Café, Coffee Cover, all waiting areas and patient rooms. You and your visitors are welcome to bring their own laptops. You and your visitors are restricted from utilizing hospital computers. Unlike PDAs, pagers or cell phones laptops do not interfere with the functioning of medical devices. Technical support is available at the hospital should a visitor experience a dead-zone or need assistance.

Smoking Policy:
Holland Hospital is a smoke-restricted environment. Patients, visitors, and staff must refrain from smoking while in the hospital or on the hospital grounds.
