Holland Hospital provides the highest quality, most cost-effective health care services possible to residents in our service area and beyond.

Our pricing strategy is simply designed to retain five cents on every dollar collected providing patient care, or, in accounting terms, produce a 5% operating margin. A positive operating margin is a sign of good financial health and allows Holland Hospital to replace needed equipment and facilities, invest in new programs and services, and continue to maintain positive financial reserves for the future. Holland Hospital monitors its charges and makes adjustments as needed to make sure we provide value to our patients and the community.

Estimates for Healthcare Services

Holland Hospital will provide a written estimate for any service offered by the hospital. Call Patient Financial Services to receive a written estimate; please have the following information handy:

  1. The name of the procedure and/or service you will be having.
  2. Any specific codes on your physician order or given to you by your doctor.
  3. Your current insurance information.

Comparable Charges for Healthcare Services

The Michigan Health & Hospital Association (MHA) has a website which allows you to compare the charges, payments, and quality data of all of the hospitals in Michigan. The website was a response to the growing trend in the health care industry to provide the consumer with more information to make health care decisions. A link is provided on the right. When reviewing and/or comparing pricing on the MHA website, please consider the following:

  1. The source of the information for the website is the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). This information was chosen because it is readily available from the federal government and covers a significant portion of the population. It does not include data from other payers such as Priority Health, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan, PPOM, Aetna, Cigna, ASR, etc.
  2. While the website comparisons are generally useful, there are many reasons that the charges and/or payments may differ among hospitals. As such, consumers should not exclusively base their health care treatment decisions on the information it presents.
  3. Patient deductibles and other patient financial obligations typically CANNOT be calculated from charge information. The amount a patient owes is governed in large part by their insurance program and the contract the insurance company has with the hospital.
  4. The charges shown are for hospital inpatient and outpatient services and exclude the professional fees for any physician service (surgeon, anesthesiologist, radiologist, pathologist, etc.).

Bills for Other Medical Service

In addition to receiving hospital bills, you may receive bills for physician fees and other medical services not provided directly by the hospital. These might include charges for physicians, radiologists, anesthesiologists, pathologists and laboratory tests or procedures. These will be billed separately.

If you have any questions or concerns about a bill you receive from a physician, please contact that physician's office directly. Be sure these medical providers have your current insurance information so they can file a claim for services. Questions about these charges should be directed to the phone number listed on the bill.
