Internists specialize in the diagnosis, treatment, management and prevention of illness and disease in adults. A minimum of seven years of medical school and postgraduate training focus on the internal systems and prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of adults diseases. Internists serve as primary care physicians and as medical consultants to other specialists, when needed.
