What You Can Expect After Joint Replacement Surgery:
Improvements in surgical techniques and post-operative care mean that within a few days you will most likely go straight home from the hospital. For some patients a stay in a rehabilitation center or care facility may be necessary before they're able to return home. Your Joint Care Coordinator will work with your care team to determine what's best for you and arrange additional support at home if required.
Complete recovery time can vary, but you can expect to use a walker for about 4 weeks. In as little as 4 to 6 weeks, you may begin driving again. Activities such as golf and bowling can be resumed in as few as 10 to 12 weeks.
2–4 days—leave hospital
5 days—begin outpatient rehab
