Many women first notice a change in their breast when they feel something they've never felt before.  In other women, a change is first detected during a routine screening. While most changes are benign, it is important to make sure that your doctor evaluates any abnormalities.  Early detection of breast cancer improves patient outcomes dramatically.

At Holland Hospital, we employ the latest diagnostic test and procedures to diagnose possible breast cancers.  These tests and procedures include:

• Mammogram:  A mammogram is an X-ray of the breast.  With Holland Hospital's digital mammography, the latest standard in breast cancer screening, you're assured clear, detailed breast imaging.
• Breast Ultrasound:  An ultrasound uses sound waves to produce images of your breast tissue.  Your doctor may recommend an ultrasound to help determine whether a breast abnormality is likely a fluid-filled cyst or possibly a tumor.
• Breast magnetic resonance imaging (MRI):  An MRI uses a magnet and radio waves to create pictures of the interior of your breast.  In addition to mammography and/or breast ultrasound, your physician may recommend an MRI for advanced break imaging to further evaluate any abnormalities.
• Stereotactic and ultrasound-guided biopsy:  When a mammogram, ultrasound or MRI detects a breast abnormality, your doctor may recommend a biopsy.  There are two ways to biopsy the treast tissues.
