Improving the health of the communities we serve is our mission at Holland Hospital. It calls for an investment in community benefit programs that enable people to get the health care services they need.
Holland Community Health Center
The Community Health Center (CHC), an outreach service of Holland Hospital, provides health care services for all who enter its doors regardless of age, language barriers, health insurance, or ability to pay. In addition, the center acquires and distributes free medications for patients who cannot afford them. The CHC currently serves more than 5,000 patients.
School Nursing Program
Holland Hospital School Nurses currently serve more than 8,000 area children in schools where a large percentage of families live at or below the poverty level.
In a typical year School Nurses:
- Handle 15,000 student visits
- Make over 500 physician referrals
- Administer more than 10,000 medications
- Screen for vision and hearing programs
- Provide trauma and grief counseling

This program is funded through hospital support and private donations. Holland Hospital's employee campaign raises funds to help support school nursing; employees contribute more than $50,000 annually.
Faith Community Nurse
The Faith Community Nurse provides health care services for one of our most vulnerable populations: homeless women and children living at the local mission. The nurse is also trained in spiritual counseling, enabling her to work effectively with people who are not only suffering physically, but are also living under great stress and trauma, often as a result of abuse. Last year she recorded over 1,700 visits.
Education and Events
Holland Hospital also reaches out the community through public health screenings, health and wellness classes, support groups and special events. Our Physician Lecture Series offers free monthly presentations by local physicians on a variety of topics.
