The hospital has upgraded to the latest advanced surgical robot, the da Vinci Si. The new Da Vinci offers additional technological capabilities with significant patient benefit like fewer adverse side affects, faster return to normal daily activities, shorter hospital stays and less scaring.  The da Vinci Si can also perforom single-site surgery which a virtually scar-free procedure requiring only one incision in the navel (belly button.)

Surgical Procedure Verification
To maximize the care and safety of our surgical patients, Holland Hospital instituted multi-checkpoint system to ensure that procedures go exactly as planned. Patients play an important role in this process by providing important information throughout the process.

Verifying the procedure to be performed starts at the time the treatment is scheduled to begin and continues up until the initiation of the procedure. Our verification process involves:

• Ensuring that the procedure is consistent with all documents, X-rays and tests
• Ensuring that the procedure is consistent with the patient’s understanding of the intended procedure
• Ensuring that the surgical site is accurately marked
• Ensuring that all the appropriate supplies have been assembled
• Ensuring that a mandated “time out” is taken immediately prior to the start of the procedure, during which the surgeon, anesthetic provider and staff, once again, verifies the accuracy of the patient, the surgical site and the procedure to be performed
