Advanced, Personal Care
Holland Hospital is unique in that our inpatient behavioral health staff is fully trained and experienced in the use of Dialectic Behavioral Therapy (DBT). DBT is considered to be the one of the most effective treatment techniques to achieve rapid, lasting progress in dealing with a variety of mental health concerns. The DBT approach encourages patients to be actively involved in their therapy and promotes patient "mindfulness" to help them accept and tolerate challenging situations and effectively manage their responses. In the process, patients learn rational self-counseling skills to help them to think and act differently based on their learning. The process has proven highly successful in helping patients with a variety of concerns such as personality disorders, mood disorders, sexual abuse and chemical dependency among other problems.

During inpatient treatment, patients participate in a daily program of:
  • individual and group therapy
  • psychoeducational classes
  • occupational therapy
  • psychiatric consultation

State-of-the-Art Inpatient Facility
Features of the modern, dedicated unit include private and semi-private patient rooms, three large group therapy rooms, three psychiatric intensive care rooms, two rooms for geriatric patients, a seclusion room and a unique "sensory integration room," which offers a soothing environment and relaxation tools for patients working on effective self-care techniques.
Expert Multidisciplinary Team
Our inpatient Behavioral Health team includes psychiatrists, nurses, psychologists, therapists and other mental health professionals who are skilled in working with patients in an inpatient setting. The team works seamlessly together and coordinates with physicians and other areas of the hospital to ensure that each patient receives superior, individualized care specific to their needs.

Aftercare & Outpatient Therapy
The length of stay in the inpatient unit depends on the nature of the person's illness and his/her response to treatment. The psychiatric staff is focused on short-term treatment, and discharge planning begins at the time of admission. Once inpatient treatment is complete, a strong aftercare program helps maintain and enhance goals established during the inpatient stay. Some patients can benefit from the continued support of the Intensive Outpatient Program and/or outpatient therapy. Discharge planning is organized with the patient, family, and other providers to ensure continuity of care.
