Whether you're newly diagnosed with diabetes or need a brush-up on the best ways to manage the disease, Holland Hospital's Diabetes Self-Management Education Program can help. The program is staffed by certified diabetes educators who provide comprehensive and ongoing education aimed at successful management of the disease.

Diabetes is a disease in which the pancreas fails to produce insulin (Type 1) and in Type 2 diabetes the pancreas does not make enough insulin and the body's cells may not properly use insulin.  About 25.8 million Americans have diabetes; 5 percent to 10 percent have type 1 diabetes, also called juvenile diabetes, while the majority are afflicted with type 2. Additionally, it is estimated that 79 million people in the U.S. have pre-diabetes, a condition in which blood glucose levels rise above normal, signifying that diabetes may develop.
